Matrix: Synapse is retired, soon to be replaced with Conduit

Post by badmin »

Yeah the Matrix chat is dead.
Synapse is high maintenance garbage and I'm just tired of dealing with its nonsense.

I'll be replacing it with Conduit later this week so we still have some presence on federalized platforms and can get new blood.

Well I've gone through Conduit and Dendrite again and they may as well be abandonware.
Conduit made me rage and Dendrite disappoints me.
If you aren't federalizing and you're using it as a standalone E2EE platform it's ok? But the whole point of 'da matrix' is to federalize.

Like, lets look at our options:
https://element-hq.github.io/synapse/la ... ation.html
https://matrix-org.github.io/dendrite/a ... gistration
https://docs.conduit.rs/configuration.html

Token based registration isn't supported by Dendrite, and limiting room complexity isn't supported by Conduit. It doesn't really matter if regular performance is a bit better if switching over allows for trivial DDoS by spam creating accounts and joining complex(large) af rooms. (and NO I will not be using google reCaptcha, whats the point of selfhosting if youre just going to make yourself reliant on Google anyways?)

So, it seems I will regretfully be setting back-up the synapse server.
I'll do my best to improve performance and tune it so this whole ordeal will at least have some benefits.

What a dogshit ecosystem
