Desktop topic

Post by HexagonalCircles »

Gents I finally lost accountless access to reddit* meaning I don't have access to r/unixporn anymore. But I still have the urge to look at cool rices so share your desktop! And any other particularities dots, what software you use, battlestation, yada yada yada.

you can still access reddit with privacy frontends like redlib, most common instance safereddit.com
Though they throttle it now, you have to wait a good while for videos and even images to load. I think its a net positive, reddit is an increasingly damaging and banal platform (but, like unixporn, there are still some subs that have decent topics, and for that I use a privacy front end)

On the desktop front, ill make an upload here soon^tm and share my own

Oh and by the way hexagon, I made an image board at board.wired.rehab
Im curious what you find more enjoyable to participate in. My thinking was this forum has been as inactive as it is due to friction with creating accounts

I used oldreddit for a bit I looked up some privacy frontends that were in the vein of invidious (teddit). And I thought they were all wiped off by the api changes a while back. I really liked some forgive me for this word 'communities' on reddit and I think that they'd be better off if they made their own forum rather then relying on reddit. I think that the more these platforms close themselves off and require greater privacy violations to use them the tech savvier crowed will be pushed into using alternatives that don't violate them. But the real blow will come when/if 'communities' will decide to 'divorce' with reddit.

Thanks for telling me (wired.rehab is cool I like the ascii on the right) and you're right about there being less friction with image boards but despite that friction the real reason for inactivity is probably discoverability I can't remember how I found Terry's church I think I was looking up some templeos related things with a niche search engine (marginalia maybe?). Also I would compare a forum to a bar and an image board to a cafe. But in reality they really aren't too different and much like how you can pick a name on an image board I'm sure one could make it so a forum has anonymous accounts. Don't take this is a to-do btw see how things turn out

PS: Terry's church is definitely the most stylish forum I've ever used. Also on the accounts thing I had logging in issues on firefox it would never remember my login (cookies and all that good stuff enabled). Though it works with the netsurf browser.
